New Design And New Technology
The front end is still characterized by the Hammer of Thor headlights, now with the LED DRL detail tracing the outline of the hammer instead of being infilled. These headlights are narrower and longer too, and now meet the outboard edges of a newly-designed grille, now with contrasting diagonal strakes instead of a traditional vertical or horizontal pattern. Below this, new air intakes and a new front bumper design maintain congruency with Volvo's electric design offerings. The taillights have been tweaked with new graphics, but the rest of the exterior is largely unchanged, save for new wheel designs ranging from 20 to 22 inches.
A Completely Revised Interior
The dash layout has been revised, too, leaning into minimalist horizontal lines, with dash inserts made from "premium recycled materials" boasting a textured finish. Newly designed vertical AC vents also feature and a revised ambient lighting layout supposedly lends to the luxurious experience. There are additional storage cubbies in the center console, an extra cupholder, and a wireless phone charger behind the central tunnel. The seating capacity remains a maximum of seven, although a six-seat spec can be opted for with individual captain's chairs in the second row.
A Quieter More Luxurious Ride
Volvo has revised the sound insulation layout and used acoustic foam in the roof pillars for a more refined driving experience. Adding to the luxury, frequency-selective dampers aid ride comfort, while an optional air suspension (also available previously) helps soak up the road, while also lowering and raising the XC90 for greater versatility and ease of access. The self-leveling system monitors the road 500 times per second and adjusts automatically. And, if any noise still intrudes the cabin, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system capable of replicating the acoustics of a stage, concert hall, or jazz club, will help you drown out the world around you.
